An exceptional forest
30 kilometers south-east of Le Mans and 30 minutes by car from the Castle of Montaupin, Bercé National Forest, a vestige of the vast forest that covered the northern side of the Loire before the Roman occupation, was recognized as Royal Forest in the 14th century.
Made up of 57 % deciduous trees and 43 % conifers, covering 5,415 hectares, the forest of Bercé is one of the most beautiful forests and oak reserves in France.
A series of hiking, mountain biking, and cycle-tourist routes pass through it, allowing visitors to explore the massif as well as the villages and surrounding area.
Take a walk, ride a horse, or ride a mountain bike along a path or trail to relax and enjoy the fresh air in this peaceful sanctuary that is the home of approximately 65 different bird species.
The Bercé forest is an ideal place for hiking, horseback riding, cycling and mountain biking (280 km of marked trails). 3 marked footpaths invite you to discover it:
- “At the school of the forest” (family loop of 1h30)
- “Sentier du Vivier” (2h30 between grove and forest)
- “Path of the forest of clos”, discovered through an app
